Judy Y. Chu, Ed.D. is an advisor, author, educator, and researcher. Chu earned her doctorate at Harvard Graduate School of Education where, supervised by Professor Carol Gilligan, her research examined boys’ gender socialization, relationships, and development during early childhood and adolescence. Focused on understanding boys’ experiences from boys’ own perspectives, Chu’s studies explore how boys negotiate their identities, behaviors, and social interactions in light of cultural constructions of masculinity that manifest in their everyday lives. Chu’s work highlights boys’ relational strengths and aims to help foster boys’ healthy resistance against societal pressures that threaten to undermine their sense of integrity and hinder their relationships.
Since 2003, Chu has been a part-time Lecturer in Human Biology at Stanford University, where she taught courses on Boys’ Psychosocial Development; Adolescent Development; and Gender, Relationships, and Psychosocial Development.
Chu has also had the honor of serving as Chair of the Global Men’s Health Advisory Committee at Movember, as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors at Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice, on the Board of Directors at Partnership for Male Youth, kNEWjoy, Roots of Empathy, and Build Up Boys, on the Professional Advisory Council for Boys’ Club of New York, on the Advisory Committee for The Foundation for Positive Masculinity., and as a member of the APA Task Force on Supporting Boys in Schools.
